Welcome to the Sheldon Community Fire & Rescue website. We hope to reach out to the community and provide safety tips, fire prevention techniques, and useful resources.

The department has been in service since 1955, and began with the merger of 2 departments.

The men and women that make up the department are your neighbors, friends, and relatives, and are actively involved in the community. We are striving to make this a better place to work, live and raise your family.

Facilities

Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue has a long-standing commitment and history of providing a rapid response time from one of our 4 stations.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning on May 2 for Harris County.

...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON...
...REPLACES FLASH FLOOD WARNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following
counties, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and San Jacinto.

* WHEN...Until 500 PM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads
remain closed due to flooding. Low-water crossings are inundated
with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 126 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is
already occurring in the warned area. Between 3 and 7 inches
of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in
the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Southeastern Conroe, Cleveland, Kingwood, Spring, The
Woodlands, Oak Ridge North, Shenandoah, Splendora, Patton
Village, Roman Forest, Woodbranch, Cut And Shoot, Hardin,
Plum Grove, Kenefick, North Cleveland, Woodloch, Dayton
Lakes, Lake Houston and Porter Heights.

Slow moving and intense rainfall of 3-4 inches per hour has been occurring over portions of Walker County into Polk and San Jacinto Counties with totals nearing 6-8 inches in 3hrs near the north end of Lake Livingston and 6-7 inches west of Huntsville to the north end of Lake Conroe. This includes a total of 7.92 inches at the north end of Lake Livingston. Flash flooding is ongoing under these intense areas of heavy rainfall.

This activity is likely to continue to develop, backbuild, and rain for the next several hours yielding an increasing flash flood threat further to the south with time.

STAY WEATHER AWARE
Emergency officials in Harris and Montgomery counties are alerting people living close by the San Jacinto River's East Fork of threatening water levels heading into Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for the east fork near New Caney, impacting Liberty, Harris, and Montgomery counties.

NWS added that major flooding is being forecast, with water levels potentially rising 10 to 15 feet, due to heavy rains upstream from storms on Sunday and Monday.

According to the Harris County Office of Emergency Management, widespread lowland flooding is expected along the river, affecting numerous streets. FM-1485 will be submerged under several feet of water and considered impassable, the OEM added.

In addition, emergency officials identified five neighborhoods that are expected to be impacted: Idle Glen Subdivision, Northwood Country Estates, River Terrace, Cypress Point, and the Kingwood area.
